HOME INVASION SUSPECTS ON SRT MOST WANTED LIST

SUSPECT POSSIBLY INVOLVED IN HOUSE ROBBERIES : PAUL ADRIANO

This individual is a key leader in the planning and execution of housebreakings and house robberies/ home invasions in the greater Cape Town area. He comes from Owamboland in Namibia and is suspected to be currently operating in our areas of operation. Our Special Response Team has been

tasked with assisting SAPS in capturing this suspect and bringing his gang to book.

Information indicates that the above-mentioned suspect is currently involved in house robberies in the Durbanville area. He is a Namibian national, residing in Hout Bay (Imizamo Yethu informal settlement) and normally operates with 2 to 3 other Namibian / Angolan nationals. Adriano was recently released on bail. He is inter-alia an accused various Paarl housebreaking cases that were committed during November 2009. The suspects normally gain access to houses by using knives or screwdrivers to pry open windows. They have also in the past used crowbars to open security gates and doors. The group mainly operates at night (between 22:00 and 04:00) and usually target houses situated on the verges of “Green Belts” (i.e. farms, forests, parks, mountainsides, etc). Other areas where these robberies occur are: Milnerton, Bellville, Stellenbosch, Claremont and Wynberg (all precincts on the verges of Table Mountain / Hout Bay mountain range, Zwaanswyk and Cecelia Forest and Hout Bay itself) and Paarl.

Iphone Tracked

On the 8th of May at 04h07 an Iphone was stolen and the owner managed to track it moving along the pipetrack above Bokkemanskloof toward IY. The phone finally came to rest within an estimated radius of 12 meters around the red spot at 04h47.

The area was surrounded by SAP and then something happened and the SAP left without investigating.
6th June, The attending SAP officers are reported to have declared it was 'shift change time' and left!

Stolen Goods Found

The goods above were found stashed in a garden in ~~Kronenzicht~~ Erica Rd Scott Estate and included apple mac accessories. The Mac bits belonged to the tenant of the premises, but the bag, shoes and specs are unclaimed. Contact goldstar@absamail.co.za to claim them.
Update:

All items have been identified by their owners who will now head along to the SAP to complete formalities. The items were all stolen in the Erica / Ixia St area which is in Scott Estate. None of the homes showed outward signs of forced entry when SSP's investigated alarms.
It appears the thief is entering through the roof and cleverly replacing tiles to conceal his entry. Alarm companies have solutions that can be added to existing alarms to secure the roof spaces.

This blog was started because no other tool existed to inform Hout Bay residents on a daily basis of the very real security risk in the areas where they lived. As things evolved the blog suddenly became a valuable intelligence tool and a number of important arrests and investigations launched from here. At the time I started I reassured HBNW and CPF that I would cease blogging here if either were ever unhappy with the blog. CPF are unhappy with the blog as it stands despite what has been written in comments below, I was informed of this in a face to face meeting. Out of respect for the volunteers in that office and the work they do this blog is finished.

It was indicated that the blog would be acceptable if suitably censored, which I have refused to do. The censorship centers around the perceived SAPS and lately, TMNP ‘bashing’. I can assure readers that SAPS / TMNP bashing is not my intention and events where SAPS are mentioned played out as written. TMNP have yet to play an obvious security role in Hout Bay. The blog is simply a mirror of events.

SAPS are unhappy with this blog at times and I understand completely. Back in the 60’s I was also unhappy with Chief Petty Officer Combrink at SAS Saldanha, because kicked me out of bed at 04h00, made me stand up straight, iron my clothes and my bed, polish my shoes, march around a parade ground eat out of a varkpan and he called me a donnerse betoger! SAPS have had no direct influence on the blog status, I only mention them because I miss Chief Combrink!.

07h24 Lady driver being intimidated on Harbour Rd close to Snoekies by a man in a red Venture CA547122 after the Venture drove into her elsewhere in HB. Lady driver panicking as the red Venture is driving through stop streets and tail gating. ADT respond, SAPS informed. 07h53 SAPS on scene. The red Venture has been reported before for suspicious behavior. On Saturday 20th Feb as follows: 03h40 CA547122 Red Venture exiting Payne St without lights and proceeds into IY. SAPS report “one of theirs”? CPF chairman asked to investigate. CPF report the vehicle was on police business in Penzance and that the victim of the intimidation incident above has not laid charges and police know nothing about it.

07h35 Lady exiting HB via Constantia Nek reports that a rock was thrown at her vehicle from the bushes just before Houtkapperspoort.

13h19 Break-in at 1@ Scott St. Resident went to the bathroom and found she had been locked in when she tried to exit the bathroom. Seems the thief was in the house and locked her in while he went through the rooms. ADT and SAPS attend.

Thieves are currently targeting apartment complexes. Break-ins are all during daytime and the edges of the complexes are hit. Thieves jump the fences or walls shielded by trees growing close by and remain hidden while residents are at work or out. Residents in complex are specifically requested to be vigilant and make sure their properties are securely locked up and alarms set.

With the sudden increase in criminal activity in Scott Estate........from a resident:...........The bell rang this morning and a guy told me that he was supposed to work on my premises on the account of Allround Pools. That surprised me, as Allround Pools always wear a specific T-Shirt, and work at my house on another day. I decided not to open and to call Allround Pools, who told me that no one was scheduled at my house today, and that all employees are requested to wear an Allround Pool T-Shirts (old ones are discarded, either burnt or torn apart)

From a resident: Just to advise break-in at no. 8 Peterhof around 5.30 - 6.30 p.m. today (Thursday 4 Feb). During last night, break-in at 1( Fisherman's bend Llandudno.

14h17 Two lady tourists mugged on Sandy Bay beach close to the Llandudno footpath by a group of five males 3 Bravo (one in a red sleeveless top and shorts) and 2Charlie males last seen heading toward Kerzner Est. Good response by HBNW, SSP's, Herzner guards and SAPS.Despite an extensive search nothing found. CERT used to patrol this area but were kicked out by TMNP. Since Cert were kicked out there have been a number of attacks, a rape and extensive poaching. Since CERT ceased patrols there has been no visible policing by Table Mountain National Park staff.

During last night the Child Welfare Cente (Old SAPS) was cleaned out. Everything was trashed and even the basins were torn off the walls and stolen. The alarm was also obliterated.

14h17 Break-in at 1# Hughenden Rd. Scrap collectors in a blue bakkie CA548354 caught stealing an installed automatic gate in Hughenden Rd. When confronted they dumped the gate and took off at high speed and were spotted on Suikerbossie exiting toward Camps Bay where they had a minor accident. Two arrested and two ducking and diving about in Camps Bay on foot being chased. Excellent response by SSP’s, SAPS and HBNW 15h10 All 5 arrested and heading for the HB cells. In the picture below the bakkie gets a bit of a lean on as it races along Main Rd. 15h17 Video evidence later shows that the thieves also broke into the house after the gate was stolen!

Incident details:

Camps Bay Watch Control was notified about a blue bakkie CA 548 354 (make unknown) containing multiple suspects and scrap metal on the back, being chased from Hout Bay towards Camps Bay. Suspects were being pursued in connection with the theft of a front gate and motor belonging to a Hout Bay property.

Our CBCSI Brooke St. Hut was alerted and CBCSI Tac Unit & SAPS deployed to Bakoven to intercept.

Brooke St. Hut alerted the network of the suspect vehicle entering CB. Tac Unit, having just reached Brooke St., observed the Suspect vehicle entering Camps Bay and gave chase direction Pick & Pay – alerting all units to the fact that the vehicle was then proceeding up Geneva Drive.

I called SAPS CB to give new directions as well as Special Ops Room in CT for Flying Squad & Dog unit intervention should vehicle cross over into CT. CBW Chairman, Ian Merrington (IM), by chance in the area & monitoring his radio, proved again that he is not just a boardroom member of CBW, and proceeded to Geneva Drive to assist.

Tac Unit pulled the vehicle over in Geneva Drive and 5 suspects abandoned their bakkie & scaled the barrier fence, landing after a 2 storey drop into the bushes behind Central Drive.

IM returned down Geneva into Crown Crescent, Tac unit continued down Tree Road to intercept whilst notifying SAPS of new coordinates. SAPS proceeded to Central Drive and a massive foot & vehicle chase ensued.

Suspects scattered – some direction Bay Hotel, others direction Pick & Pay. IM ditched his vehicle behind the Bay and proceeded on foot across the CB Club sports field direction SandBar. Tac Unit chased a suspect towards the Beach and CBCSI Dog unit & multiple SAPS units the rest. IM was instrumental in giving up to date intel. on suspect’s whereabouts, leading to 2 arrests near Victoria Road by CBCSI Tac & Dog units. SAPS assisted in arresting another near the Bay Hotel and a further 2 suspects were arrested by SAPS when an alert Insp. Ntamo spotted them climbing down a tree they were hiding in near the tidal pool.

Other units returned to watch over the bakkie, joined by Hout Bay SAPS and Coastal Security. As this was a Hout Bay case, the vehicle and suspects needed to be returned to HB. Whilst back at CB SAPS, a neighbourhood watch member brought in a bunch of Keys found in Farquhar Rd, which Insp. Fourie quickly recognised as belonging to an old model Datsun/Nissan. Keys were filed down to allow for entry into multiple ignitions. This info, together with Farquhar Rd being inside our chase zone, made me radio Tac unit at Geneva Dr. To enquire if bakkie keys were missing – it was indeed so. HB SAPS (who had left with the suspects) were recalled & the bakkie was escorted back to HB.

Whilst waiting for HB SAPS to return, HB Watchcon phoned me to confirm that video footage from another premises in Hout Bay placed the same blue bakkie on the scene.

In summary – multiple crimes solved and multiple suspects arrested due to great comms and cooperation between bordering areas as well as brilliant team work between multiple CBCSI units, CBW and CB SAPS. – Bernard.

19h32 ADT8 reports a white Corolla CA136820 occupied by 4 Bravo male driving from bank to bank. SAPS respond, search and report all in order. This vehicle crashed after a high speed chase out of HB in October last year. See labels for this reg.

The Hotness Continues

As Paris Hilton once said “The hotness continues” Crime during the last 30 days showed a marked drop especially in the upper valley. Northshore and Beach Estate however saw an alarming increase in criminal activity including violent incidents.

During the last few days there has been a marked upswing in activity throughout the valley including the upper valley. A blue vehicle has also been noted picking up two Bravo males from the bushes at the top of Valley Rd at 02h30 one morning.

Linda Tshonela was arrested up on the 20th after a break-in in Blackwood Dr, Overkloof. This on it's own isn't remarkable because Linda is a regular threat in the valley. What is remarkable is that Linda had appeared in court earlier the same day for house breaking. Linda is though to have had two accomplices who got away.

15h21 Juvenile driver unable to drive properly reported on Main close to Mainstream. Blue Corolla has no windows and no interior and is unlicensed. Vehicle stopped and SAPS asked to attend. SAPS responding officer terribly offended because a concerned member of the public stopped the vehicle. There is no available recorded incident of SAPS ever stopping the current plague of juvenile drivers of their own accord other than at official roadblocks. There is however a long history of poor responses by SAPS when these juvenile drivers are reported driving about by members of the public. At times these juvenile multiple offenders can be seen up to three times a day by a single person going about their daily business. These vehicles with their juvenile drivers drive right past the HB police station four or more times an hour. When these juvenile drivers are handed over to SAPS they can be seen driving around again with a full load of passengers within hours and in one recent incident crashing into shacks and running away having been handed to SAPS earlier in the day.

Last night (Tuesday) on retiring to bed we opened a door which has catch allowing just enough space for our small dogs to go out and do their thing at night. This door is right next to a exterior beam (1 meter - set up so we could do this) and also has a door mag. When I went to the door this morning I found a rock wedging the bottom of the door open as though someone had tried to open/bend the door further to crawl through the bottom of the opening. They must have known that the sensor was there (no lights on), and crawled along the ground to avoid triggering the beam on their approach to the door. This is the room that the dogs are confined to at night and none of them barked or were alerted. Fortunately no access was gained, but a very disturbing incident. There is still activity in the area and the perpetrators are becoming more and more innovative. We need to keep alert.

From a Main Rd resident.

A Horrid incident happened here on Saturday afternoon. My part time gardener who has worked here for about 7 years on and off arrived either drunk or on drugs or both which is most unusual. He forced his way into my kitchen, grabbed a large glass bottle and tried to kill my mother who is 86. I called Hout Bay Police immediately and they said they would send a vehicle but none arrived. It took 3 ADT cars and personnel to get him off the property and then he still refused to budge until police finally arrived and took him away. Charges were laid and victim support offered. The Zimbabwean assailant may be known as Boysen Mahlathini Sibanda and also works in Constantia 3 days a week.

ADT are currently doing extra patrols in the area.

Angry residents of Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay tore down the informal wooden home of a Malawian man and evicted a number of Africans after the alleged rape of a four-year-old girl on Friday.Hout Bay police spokesperson Tanya Lesch yesterday said the girl had been referred to a doctor. Three Malawians had been arrested and would appear in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court today. Aggett Avenue residents said when the child returned home from playing, her aunt decided to inspect her private parts and found white marks. When asked where she had been, the girl pointed to a Malawian's house, the aunt said. The girl was taken to the police station on Saturday. On their way back from the police station, fuming Aggett Avenue residents destroyed the house and the man's belongings. They then gave all foreigners in their area until 5pm yesterday to leave. At 5pm, a crowd of about 200 gathered in an open area between the houses. One resident was booed when she asked why all the foreigners were being evicted instead of just the one accused of rape. "If it was a South African who had raped would the whole community be evicted?" asked another. Among the group were a number of young men armed with sticks who appeared to be drunk and who threatened to remove foreigners. The arrival of police thwarted their plans. Yesterday morning some of the foreigners, mostly Zimbabweans, left. Mavis Gwenhure, 36, said the evictions were motivated by xenophobia. She, like fellow Zimbabwean Anthony Muteti, who has been living in Hout Bay for seven years, had not found a place to move to.

08h00 Bin scratchers in Hughenden this morning prompted this story from a reader. Three weeks ago while walking to Hughenden from the village a group of three Bravo males were noted following a walker as he passed IY. The followers never turned into the graveyard entrance and the walker became very worried especially when they followed him into Whittlers Way. There one closed in and tried to rob him producing a knife. The walker dealt with this attacker but was overpowered when the other two joined in the attack. The walker was relieved of his cellphone just as a vehicle came up the road scaring the thugs off who ran through the Hughenden fence line back into IY. This morning the walker spotted a bin scratcher taking photo’s of his surroundings with a cellphone. On investigation this phone appears to be the one stolen 3 weeks ago although the scrathcer claims to have found it at the IY roundabout. The implications around this are unclear.

13h00 Montessouri staff member was painting outside the school grounds when two passing Bravo males jump her, wrestele her to the ground and steal her cellphone. A passing CCC bakkie stopped and the two CCC employees managed to detain one of the knife carrying thieves with the assistance of another vehicle driver and passenger who had now stopped. SAPS assistance requested. SAPS vehicle ZH31 drove right past without stopping. Later ZH30 arrived to uplift the mugger and leave. No apparent attempt was made to obtain eyewitness statements. Arresting policeman probably decided the victim's statement would suffice.

Since the arrest of the two persons on Thursday there have been no break-in's in the Valley perpetrated by people sheltering in IY. Without these arrests there would undoubtedly have been a number of house break-in's in the Valley. Break-in's in the particularly hard hit Penzance and Hughenden area have stopped for the moment. There is no doubt that normal activity will resume sooner rather than later as the gang will shortly regroup as they have done in the past, shortly after other high profile arrests. There has to be a mastermind behind these groups as they seem well coordinated choosing their victims carefully.

Northshore and Beach Estate continue to suffer under the Hangberg Tikmonster scourge and their cause isn't helped by this incident. After a break-in and theft of laptop's etc. a suspect was detained and handed to police where he later admitted to being the culprit. The resident victim declined to open a case and the thief has been allowed to continue raiding in the Northshore / Beach area. A number of SSP's and HBNW members went to great lengths to intercepth this misery. The original incident post is copied below.

Virginia Keppler Pretoria - An armed robber who attacked 12 people in a house in Queenswood, Pretoria, and threatened to shoot them "one by one", shot his own penis off with his stolen firearm.
Another robber was shot dead on the scene.
The injured robber had hidden the firearm in the front of his trousers. When he removed the weapon, a shot went off by accident, hitting him in the groin.
According to an informed source at the scene, this robber's injury was so severe that doctors would not have been able to re-attach his penis.
Collette Weilbach, police spokesperson, said the family's domestic worker raised the alarm on Friday evening at 20:00 when she noticed two suspicious men in the yard.
The family wishes to remain anonymous.
According to Weilbach, the family had 12 guests at the time, which included adults and children.
"The robbers ransacked the house, threatening to shoot the people one by one."
At that stage, she said, the family's 35-year-old son arrived at the house along with security guards.
"The son fired two shots at a man who was aiming a firearm at his father. The robber was hit in the head and died at the scene."
The other two robbers fled. Family members who were rushing to the scene from Montana managed to capture one of the robbers near the house and load him into a vehicle.
